Inukshuk Winter Fat Bike Race 2021 RULES

The Inukshuk Winter Fat Bike Race takes place in and around the somewhat remote backroads, singletrack trails and partial  wild’ness of Southern Ontario during possibly extreme weather (e.g. ice storm, blizzard, snow, wind rain storms). –

Racers ‘may be a distance from aid or assistance –

 

In addition to our standard Charter rules (be good, do no harm, help fellow racer/citizen in need), these rules are in place to keep racers safe.

THE BASICS

1. All racers must follow the official designated marked route on their modern and well-maintained mountain bike with a light or reflector affixed to the front of the bike and visible. Racers must always wear a helmet in accordance with the laws of Ontario when riding their bicycle, show up to the start ‘on time’, and cross the ‘official finish line’. This is a timed event; and total cumulative times are used to determine the winner(s) and all racers who complete the race are considered finishers, otherwise participants.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

2. Racers must be 19+ on the first day of racing.

3. Racers must be physical fit and capable of completing a multi hour race according to their health and or their doctors advise. There is no medical questionnaire prior to racer check-in. If a racer is unwell do withdraw. Safer then sorry.

4. All racers must attend racer check-in. Racers must agree to and sign the liability waiver as a condition of participation and attend for the duration of the event unless they leave voluntarily and inform the racer org prior to finishing.

5. Racers are responsible for having a well-maintained and working bike with working brakes/shifters (take note equipment may fail/ freeze up and or malfunction at colder temperatures or even break). There is no mechanical support available on course and all mechanicals are the responsibility of the racer (they may receive assistance from other racers only).

6. All racers must attend the short Mandatory Racer Meeting prior to start.

MEDICAL

7. Racers may be medically disqualified at the discretion of the Race org. if it is brought to their full attention they have had an injury or crash.

8. Do not come to the start line if you are feeling sick, unwell or exhibiting any symptoms and let Racer Org know that you will not be starting using the Racer Relations Contact.

9. Please review Ontario Covid-19 Safety Measures.

ON-COURSE

10. Racers may not participate without being checked in/out.

11. Racers must be wearing a helmet that complies with the international ANSI/SNELL standards at all times while riding their bikes and have proper coat (i.e. Goretex), shoes and gloves.

12. We suggest that racers carry the recommended gear while on course: tube, patch kit, pump, CO2, food, water, lighter, whistle, rain jacket/ space blanket, a pressure bandage, and a day’s supply of any medication you require (EpiPen, heart medication, asthma medication, diabetes medication, etc.). You are 100% self sufficient.

13. Please follow directions from race management/officials regarding start times and when to arrive at the start.

14. There are no aid stations (before, or after). You may come within a distance of a coffee shop, café, or fast food. You may freely use these as you want (however must return exactly to the location you left the course - #16).

15. All HTA traffic laws must be observed when on all primary roads including stop signs. Secondary gravel roads are not maintained and may require extra attention. Failure to do so may result in injury or being removed by Inukshuk officials from the event.

16. A racer is not permitted to take any shortcuts, or omit a circuit, take other advantages of similar nature against other competitors. Fairness for all.

17. Any racer who exits the course must return to the course at the exact same point at which they exited.

18. Towing another racer is not allowed, unless required as a result of a medical or mechanical situation to reach safety or the finish line.

Inukshuk RACE 2021 RULES LEAVING THE COURSE

19. Only racers who complete the full course and all sections will be considered official Inukshuk Winter Fat Bike Race “finishers” and are eligible for total time (overall event win) or wins. All others will be considered “participants” and are still eligible for ranking.

20. Any racers who do not cross the finish line, are taken off the course, or self-extract from the event must check-in immediately with Racer relations upon returning. Failure to do so will result in us contacting your listed emergency contact and being unable to participate in any further stages.

21. If you do not finish a stage, or if you miss a stage completely (do not start) for any reason, you will be registered as a ‘participant’. All “participants” who wish to re-enter the event must be cleared by Racer Relations staff to do so.

22. Any racers who are medically disqualified due to injury or illness must be cleared by the Inukshuk Race and/or local hospital doctor.

TIMING

23. Racers who stay with injured racers will be given the full time credit for being a good Human/Samaritan and will not have their race time impacted – look at your watch-Garmin-iPhone etc.. Inform the race official of your assistance. It will result in no negative time lost and yo would be helping a fellow racer. (GPS doesnt lie).

24. Protests must be communicated immediately upon finishing the event to Racer relations (within 15 minutes of results being posted).

Protests will be adjudicated by the Management.

LEADERS

25. Race leaders and winners must attend finish ‘award’ acknowledgement.

CUT-OFF TIMES

26. Inukshuk Winter Fat Bike Race may enforce cut-off times for racers who have exceeded the allowable amount of time on course, or in the event of extenuating circumstances (extreme conditions, course damage, management, officials orders, etc.)

CONSEQUENCES: These rules are in place primarily to ensure fairness, fun and safety within the context of a mountain fat bike race. Failure to comply will result in a warning. Second offenses will result in a 60-minute timing penalty and subsequent offenses may include expulsion, at the discretion of Racer relations and the Management.
